Dans le cadre du Réseau International Ambiances, ce troisième séminaire propose d’aborder la question du rôle du design urbain et des activités humaines dans l’émergence des ambiances urbaines.
L’espace urbain, lieu de complexité, organise une pluralité de facteurs à l’origine du développement des ambiances, parmi lesquels la « forme », considérée au sens large, joue un rôle important. La conférence, cherche ainsi à adresser ce thème
par l’intermédiaire de la thématique du design urbain, en posant la question de l’émergence des ambiances au croisement de l’intention conceptrice sur le lieu et des pratiques sociales qui s’y déploient. En effet, il apparaît d’une part dans le discours des concepteurs une volonté de création, ou de maîtrise des ambiances. D’autre part, les activités humaines, leurs effets corporels et symboliques, jouent également dans l’émergence et la caractérisation des ambiances.

Under the aegis of the International Ambiances Network this conference aims to address the role of urban design and human activities in the emer- gence of urban atmosphere(s).
Urban space is complex, bringing into play numerous factors which may prompt the formation of atmosphere(s). Of these factors the material environment, in the broad sense of the term, plays an important part. The conference will seek to address this topic by looking at urban design, in particular the question of how atmospheres take form at the meeting point between the desire to design at a given place and the social practices which unfold there. On the one hand the discourse of designers expresses the will to create, or at least control, atmospheres. On the other hand human activities, with their corporeal and symbolic effects, also play a part in bringing out and colouring atmosphere(s).
